Dipalii Vasudev

At Brilliant Read Media, it is our constant endeavour to identify and share some of the unique and compelling stories from the startup ecosystem. As part of this, we invited Dipalii Vasudev for an interview with Brilliant Read Media. To say it further, Dipalii is an Image Consultant, Personal Wardrobe Stylist and Founder at DV Style Studio. Let’s learn more about her background, inspiring journey so far and her advice for our growing community!

Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Dipalii:

Please tell us about your background and your journey. What inspired you to become an Image Consultant and Personal Stylist?

After spending over 13 years in the corporate world, I realised that the way we dress has a profound impact on our confidence, presence, and the opportunities we attract. Styling had always been a passion of mine, and I naturally found myself helping friends, colleagues, and family members feel more confident through their wardrobe choices.

That passion eventually inspired me to become a Certified Image Consultant and Personal & Wardrobe Stylist. Today, through DV Style Studio, I help women create wardrobes that genuinely reflect their personality, lifestyle, and aspirations.

My philosophy is simple: personal style isn’t about buying more clothes; it’s about dressing with intention, confidence, and authenticity.

In your opinion, why is personal style so important in today’s world?

Personal style isn’t about owning expensive clothes; it’s about being your authentic self. The way we dress is a reflection of our personality, values, lifestyle, and aspirations. When your wardrobe aligns with who you truly are, getting dressed becomes effortless and intentional.

Beyond appearance, a strong personal style creates lasting first impressions, boosts self-confidence, and allows you to show up as the best version of yourself every single day.

It can even open doors to new personal and professional opportunities because confidence is often communicated before a single word is spoken.

What are some of the most common styling mistakes you see people making?

One of the biggest mistakes I notice is that people keep repeating the same shopping patterns for years. They continue buying the same silhouettes, colours, and styles simply because that’s what they’ve always worn.

What many people fail to realise is that we evolve over time, and our wardrobe should evolve with us. Our careers, lifestyles, personalities, and bodies change, and our clothing should support those changes rather than keep us stuck in the past.

How do you help your clients discover a style that truly represents them?

I firmly believe that great style starts with understanding the person, not the wardrobe.

Every consultation begins with learning about my client’s lifestyle, personality, profession, goals, and aspirations. I also assess their body proportions, current wardrobe, and daily requirements before creating a personalised styling strategy.

My goal is to help every client build a wardrobe that feels authentic, practical, and confidence-boosting so that their image naturally supports the life and career they are building.

What makes your styling approach at DV Style Studio different from conventional fashion advice?

My approach goes far beyond recommending trendy outfits. I don’t believe styling should be based on what’s currently fashionable or what everyone else is wearing.

Instead, I focus on helping women understand themselves first. Every recommendation is personalised according to their body type, lifestyle, personality, and goals. The result is a wardrobe that works effortlessly for them rather than one that’s driven by short-lived trends.

Could you share a memorable client success story that continues to inspire you?

One of the most rewarding moments in my journey was working with a client who had completely lost confidence after becoming a mother. She believed her body had changed beyond recognition and felt that nothing looked good on her anymore.

Instead of trying to fit her into her old wardrobe, we shifted our focus to understanding and celebrating the body she has today. Together, we built a wardrobe that complemented her shape, personality, and current lifestyle.

At the end of our sessions, she told me, “You gave me back the confidence I thought I’d lost after having kids.” Today, she dresses with confidence instead of self-criticism.

Experiences like these remind me that image consulting is about much more than clothes; it’s about helping people reconnect with themselves.

Fashion trends change constantly. How can someone stay fashionable without losing their individuality?

I always tell my clients that trends are optional, but personal style is timeless.

Rather than following every trend, I encourage people to adopt only those that genuinely align with their personality, body type, lifestyle, and existing wardrobe. When you have clarity about your personal style, trends become a tool to enhance your look, not something that defines who you are.

What wardrobe essentials do you believe every woman should own?

I believe wardrobe essentials should be personal rather than universal.

A corporate professional, an entrepreneur, a freelancer, and a stay-at-home mother all have very different lifestyles, which means their wardrobe requirements will naturally differ.

Instead of promoting generic “must-have” lists, I help my clients identify versatile pieces they will actually wear regularly, clothes that fit beautifully, work well together, and reflect their personal style.

A truly functional wardrobe is built around the individual, not around trends.

What is your vision for DV Style Studio over the next few years?

My vision is to make personal styling more accessible, practical, and transformational for everyday women.

I want to help women move beyond trends and build wardrobes that genuinely reflect their personality, support their lifestyle, and strengthen their confidence.

Going forward, we plan to expand our personalised styling services, wardrobe edit experiences, and educational workshops so that more women can discover the power of intentional dressing.

What advice would you like to give to women who want to improve their personal style but don’t know where to begin?

My biggest piece of advice is to understand yourself before changing your wardrobe.

Your body, lifestyle, personality, and everyday needs should guide every style decision, not social media trends or what everyone else is wearing. You don’t need an overflowing wardrobe to look well-dressed; you simply need clarity about what truly works for you.

When you dress with intention, confidence naturally follows. And if you ever need guidance on your style journey, I’m always happy to help.
